This
course is based on the foundations of government, the philosophies that have
affected the development of our political, social, and economic system, and the
participation of the citizen (student) in democratic processes. Students will
be expected to learn and fulfill their civic responsibilities, while evaluating
the civic actions of others in our society. Students will develop their
individual political positions by evaluating the platforms of political
parties, candidates, past and current office holders. The course will finish
with an analysis of major Supreme Court decisions, the affect they have on the
citizen (student), and an evaluation of the factors that determined the
majority and dissenting opinions.
